Chapter 3 - 24/07/2006
After having installed the benchwork in the room for Summiton Yards or at least the straight section of it, I have over the last week started putting up the brackets for the Eastern side of the Toowoomba Range. This is where the fun began. There is at this point supposed to be two tracks running with one above the other. The lower of these two will be access to the hidden staging yards.

Especially if you live on the Darling Downs and have soil that moves so much it has been issued with its own passport as we do. After purchasing another 60 meters of 3x2 from Dalby, we were in business.
Thus far the total amount spent on the layout is just on $500.00. As you can tell by the photos, I have gone in for a bit of overkill when it comes to mounting the layout from the walls. At least it won't move when we get the next batch of rain. Click for large photo!
Click for large photo! I have used 9mm plywood for the track base in Summiton Yard. Once I had installed this, I discovered that the yard is actually a lot bigger then I first thought. I can actually fit seven roads in the yard and another 4 in the workshops area (the lower bit at the front).
After having placed a few lengths of track on the ply to work out the length of the yard, I discovered that just this area is already 25 wagons in length or 5 meters. Click for large photo!

The Plan for this week is to try and get the next short wall fitted with brackets and joists for the next part of the layout.

We shall see how we go.
