Okay… here we go. Since my ankle has finally mended
itself (two agonizingly slow weeks after the event). I have managed
to get a VERY large amount of work done on the layout.
A very good friend of mine Ken Brady (Model Rail Sales
& Constructions, check out the retailers page) came to stay with us
for about a week. Of course during this week the ministry of war and
finance (The Artist Formerly Known As Jade) was in Goondiwindi for the
week to relieve for a sick coworker. So with all remaining voices of
reason more than 200klms from home, it was time to get some serious
work done on the layout .

 |
First step was to finish wiring up the Lenz controller
and booster units. Once again, this is an amazing piece of equipment.
As someone who works in the model railway industry let me say that
it is often hard to keep your own hobby alive and keep interest.
This new Lenz system has renewed my love for the hobby… seriously!

| Ken and I also managed to wire up the point motors
for the Eastern end of Summiton yard, Harlexton, the Western end
of the hidden staging and Holmes passing loop. |

The entire layout is being built using Peco points,
point motors and track. I have just found this to be the most reliable
over the years and also the easiest to get hold of. Next we started
on making the fascia boards for the layout… well bits of them anyway
as they hold the switches for the points. |
|
|
I only really needed single pole single throw
switches, but ya get that. If you're a bit of a novice to the
electronic world like myself, the double pole bit means there
are six little doofries for attaching wires on the back and on
the single poles there is only three.

|
 |
I chose to use the double switches as it allows
me to control two sets of points at once… very handy for cross
overs and loops.
So once these were installed, we played… much
time passed and we were still playing.

The following day, I started to get a few bugs sorted
out with a couple of my locomotives. This was done with varying degrees
of success.
The next step is to get that final loop made for the
Western end of Summiton Yard and to finish the main line so I can actually
run some trains.
We shall see how we go.
