Chapter 8 - 23/12/2006

Merry Christmas everyone. And we all know what that means, don't we? It means that I have stopped answering the phone, emails, carrier pigeons or any other forms of literati people may use to try and distract me from the layout.

The thought has occurred to me that I can actually take an entire week now to work on the layout. After having danced with glee at this thought to the point where most of the town of Jandowae is thinking "I thought Adam needed to change his medication," it was down to work.

That fat bloke in the red pajamas will be here soon and I reckon he's got to be getting pretty tired of brandy and biscuits being left out as bribery to encourage the giving of more presents.

That's right, what Santa wants is to play trains!

So whilst Jade chased tour new puppy around the yard wielding a camera and a Christmas outfit (yes a doggie Christmas outfit, I didn't know they made them either… go figure)
I thought I should sneak down stairs and get stuck into the layout before I get "persuaded" into putting up more Christmas lights.

You know, because it's important that the residents of the Mir space station know that the Wuiskes are in the Christmas spirit.

So it is time to start getting this mountain looking like a mountain. I have been using chicken wire over a timber form to build the base for the mountain. I then layer some plaster bandage over the chicken wire (just one layer as it is pretty expensive stuff). Once this is done, I put a layer of plaster over the plaster bandage…. "Can you give me a hand
please Jade? … O.K. thanks, now go back to traumatising the dog please."

I discovered that it is possible to get a bit carried away with the size of mountains… Since this one is eight feet wide and over six feet high, it presents a couple of problems just trying to reach the top to plaster it. "Jade… can you please give me a hand again?"

It was at this point where it dawned on me (so I was told anyway) that a rather small dog dressed in a Santa suit and looking decidedly depressed, is of much greater importance than such silly things as "layouts". Thankfully, my mother arrived for Christmas and the progress of the layout was ensured for a couple more days.

Along with my mother came a close friend of mine Damien, who had come up to help out with the layout.

So whilst Jade and my mother searched high and low for a dead horse to talk the ear off, Damien and I got stuck in to the important stuff.

As the light faded Damien and I decided It was time to console the dog with a quiet drink to help her get over the days trauma.

All in all we had a rather successful week and now have a mountain that is starting to look like a mountain.

Merry Christmas
