Chapter 11 - 02/05/2007
Well after an extended break from writing Adam’s Corner there is a fair bit to catch up on. We have been busying ourselves getting ready for the Brisbane Miniature Train Show and all going well I will get to meet more of you there over the 5th, 6th and 7th of May.
I have finally gotten down to the task of ballasting the layout and have discovered many interesting little things… The main thing I have discovered is that I HATE BALLASTING!
I find it to be about as much fun as being shot in the chest with an arrow and finding there is an electricity bill attached to it.
All that aside, The Summiton yard now has 4 roads ballasted along the straight portion. I have also (finally) cut a piece of 3mm ply for the township of Sumiton.
I have mounted this on scrap pieces of 1˝ x 2˝ that I had lying around doing nothing. So as these lay about bits of timber where more than likely plotting to take over the world or at least grow opposable thumbs to enable them to sign up for the dole, I thought I should crack the old Wuiske Whip and put them to use.
Once this was done, I managed to put the chicken wire in position around the township and then had the plastering machine (otherwise known as Jade) come in and finish the job. The township of Sumiton sits about 2 inches above rail height at the Eastern throat of the yard. Eventually I intend to put a road bridge over the track to allow access to the other side of the town.
I have also been busy putting in some frame work for the plaster on the Western side of the range. This has now been plastered and looks the part, though I think it needs a bit more smoothing out before scenery can be added.
To add to all these new developments, I have now completed my 25th VAK coal hopper. After doing this, much celebrating was done… immediately before realizing there are still three more VAKs to go until the first coal train is complete.

Having said that, the 25 car coal train runs very well up the hills with only two locomotives on the head. Overall the train is around the 22 foot mark in length.

The next thing for me to do now is to get stuck in and finish laying and wiring the track for Harlexton ballast quarry.

But that will have to wait until we get back from Brisbane after the show. As we will be releasing the QFC container wagon at this years show, it should be rather busy. We shall see how we go.
