Now, where was I?
Ah yes, Christmas. Well this year with Ken coming out
for Christmas we managed to throw a lot of new ideas around and reaffirm
a lot of old ones.
|
 |
After Ken headed back to Brisbane on Thursday,
we awaited the arrival of my mother and grandmother. For those of
you who are unaware, my mother is one of those people who has a
fondness for cats that should be outlawed. My grandmother has a
fondness for making fun of my mother's cat fetish. |
|
After taking a record six and a half hours to drive from Brisbane out
to Jandowae, we sat down to have a late lunch and discuss my mother's
obvious failings behind the wheel (this took some time). By mid morning
on Friday it was time for the two of them to return to Brisbane so that
my grandmother could attend a hairdressing appointment (not an issue I
am usually vexed with) and so that my mother could attend to her "ageing
cat".
|
So with the house free for a day or two before
my brother and his wife arrived, it was time to get something done
on the layout.
I managed to get a few details placed around Craig's Fisho. I thought
I should get this done prior to my brother's arrival as it is named
after him. |

|
 |
I have a building that has been sitting on the
layout for some time waiting to get painted and weathered. This
warehouse is made from Walthers Modular wall sections. These things
are great to work with and are (in my opinion anyway) head and shoulders
above the DPM modules. |
|
| After painting the building with Humbrol Brick,
I highlighted the trims with Testor's Concrete. Once this had dried,
I gave the entire building a wash with acrylic artists paints that
where heavily diluted. This helped to not only give the appearance
of mortar, but also to take some of the starkness off the brick
colour. |
 |
|
 |
I next painted the window and door frames QR Blue
(Humbrol #48). I chose this colour because I was painting a 1720
for a friend and had the airbrush loaded so why not. After these
were dry, I fitted them. I must say that I wasn't too sure about
painting the windows blue, but after having fitted them it changed
the entire look of the building . |
|
| I have a few silos that are from a Kibri kit I
bought years ago. I made a small walkway and ladder section out
of brass wire and have fitted these to the building. I am trying
to have something with a reasonable amount of detail on all the
background buildings to avoid them looking too plain. |
 |
|
|
So the next step is to give the entire building another
wash with diluted paint to weather it a bit more and blend those windows.
We shall see how we go.
