<<< CHAPTER 23
Chapter 24 - 07/02/2008

Well here we go again with another brilliant idea (That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it) developed with the visit from Guss.
This time I am going to build an overhead foot bridge across the yard.

This bridge will extend from next to Summiton Distribution at the back of road seven, all the way to the front of the layout. I decided to do this after talking at length about it with Jade and Guss. The problem is that Summiton Yard is just too long and therefore it tends to dominate your focus when you walk into the room.
So with this in mind, the idea is to create a scenery break or two. The overhead bridge will be perfect to split the yard into two sections.

I have made the support frames from 0.040” styrene strips attatched to Plastruct
box section. I’ve used 0.020” styrene for the deck. The intention is to then make a frame out of Plastruct Angle Iron and fit some of our mesh to it. In theory it will work and look like a modern galvanized footbridge with mesh fitted specifically to negate the ability for miniature rail fans to take photos. I’ll keep you updated on the progress of this as I get further into it.
I’ve also been doing some work on a little house that I intend to call “Hillbilly House” or “Mad Mans Manor”, Jade is yet to tell me which name I prefer.

This house is situated up in the back corner of the layout. It is nearly six feet up in the air, so it is visible from most angles. Having said that, I intend to put enough trees around this house that it’s presence will not be immediately noticeable.
Part of my list of wants for this layout is that as a visitor, you will take a great many visits to notice all the details and scenes that we have created.

I remember that someone mentioned this to me when I was just starting out in the hobby (at about age 10 or 12).
Back in the days when I was just a maniacal Wuiske in training, this was something that was rarely done. Today it doesn’t seem to have changed a great deal with the majority of layouts that I have seen. But the level of modeling and scenic detail has still increased in leaps and bounds.
I have also started putting some signals in on the main storage tracks of Summiton Yard.
Whilst this may not be 100% prototypical, I would like to have a way for people to see straight away which road they will be heading into or out of. As with most things, this will all be controlled from the dispatch panel. No doubt, when I get to the stage of wiring these in, there will again be a world shortage of copper wire.
I have decided it is about time to start looking at the house next to the Western end of Holman as well. All it really needs is the interior walls put in and to have the lights positioned better. I really need to put some supports under the balcony of the house too. If the council turned up they would have a field day with the “defects” on this humble

abode. With any luck, the HO council won’t come a-knocking until after I have rectified this. So I guess that’s next week’s job… hopefully.

We shall see how we go.
