So Christmas has been and gone. Once more the
evil one in red has managed to avoid our custom built reindeer traps
and delivered his load of presents. |
|
|
I suppose I should feel bad for trying to hunt
his helpers (Jade said she wanted some Garden Gnomes what else
am I supposed to do?) as the fat red one did manage to leave me
some great little pressies.
|
 |
|
| Namely sixteen shiny new railway DVDs. I
am vaguely aware of other things “happening" over this period but
there was no time to observe these due to the afore mentioned DVDs. |
 |
With my normal Anti-Santa parade cancelled due
to ill health from one of our scheduled visitors, we decided to
head down to Brisbane and take Ken along to my Grandparents for
Christmas Day. So with an entire tribe of men in white coats we
set off for Christmas Day. |
|
| At this point I would like to say thank
you to all those who sent me “merry Xmas” messages on my phone. |
|
This proved to be very entertaining for Jade
as I am not a “texting” (you thought I’d stopped inventing words
didn’t you?) type of person. After about 3 hours I managed to
send a couple of SMS messages in response to those who sent them.
At this point I also decided to start looking for Christmas cards
that tick for next year.

 |
After all was said and done, we had a great day
and resolved to spend boxing day doing nothing. That in itself is
easier said then done when my mother is roaming the house talking
to her deranged cat. Both Jade and I found this very entertaining
for the first five minutes or so until it dawned on us that a |
|
| fifty-something year old woman had just
lost a battle of wits with a cat whose entry form for the brains trust
was “misplaced”. |
| So on Boxing day afternoon, we decided to head
home… Until we got a phone call from a mate to say he had just moved
house. So it was off to Petrie we went and ended up staying the
night. Eventually (after Jade finished torturing their Christmas
present "Mindy"), we managed to leave the following day,
albeit with an extra passenger in tow. |
 |
|
| We had invited Robbo’s son Matt along for
a week to see what life is like on planet Jandowae. After finally arriving
home at 1:30 in the morning Jade thought it was the perfect time to play
Trivial Pursuit. I thought it was the perfect time to take a look at modifying
those reindeer traps. |
 |
It is worth mentioning at this point that there
is still a layout downstairs and that progress has been made. I
have finally managed to complete the scenery around the bridge abutments.
This will allow the road to cross the throat of the yard in Summiton
and connect the back and front of the layout. |
|
| For the scenery, I simply painted the plaster
with diluted acrylic paints as per normal and let it dry. |
Once this was done, I “painted” on some diluted
white glue and sprinkled some dirt all over the area. I was really
happy with the result of this as the dirt left “streaks” along the
vertical surfaces. Next I sprinkled a small amount of static grass
material (the same stuff we have used all over the layout).
|
 |
|
 |
So it may not be exactly what you call a complex
scenery process but I think it has achieved the look I was after.
The next step is to start on the “shopping centre” building to go
up against the wall. |
|
With all that said and done, Jade and I would
like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy
New Year. We would also like to thank you all for your support over
the last year. As we head into our seventh year of supplying QR
modelers, we have a lot of big things happening this year.
Most of these are things we never thought we would be able to achieve
with the Queensland market. So once again, thank you for your continued
support.

Cheers,
Adam & Jade. |
