Well here we go with chapter 45 of my little ramblings.
To celebrate the occasion, I thought I would do a little
corner about building one of our popular building kits.
|
 |
In this chapter we are
going to build a Three Door Trolley Shed. This kit is a favourite
of mine as it blends in anywhere… Well anywhere near the track
anyway. So lets get started.
Firstly, I opened the package… And this was the most challenging
part of building the entire kit, it's pretty basic.
|
|
|
The first thing I did was (as with all kits)
to run a knife along the edges of the castings to make sure they
are all straight and smooth.
The next part was perhaps the most time consuming part of the
entire project. I removed the flash from the doors. I’ve found
that sanding the back of the door castings is the quickest and
easiest way of doing this.
|
 |
|
Whilst sanding them I made sure to move the doors in a figure eight motion.
This ensures that even pressure is applied to the surface and the flash
comes out with a good blast of bad breath. If like myself you are silly
enough to smoke, you may need a break after this step. |
 |
With the doors now clean of flash
I started building up the actual structure. I glued the side wall
to the back wall. I did the same with the other side wall and then
fitted the front wall frame into position. When doing this you need
to make sure that the thicker section of the front wall is at the
top. Lastly, I fitted the roof. |
|
|
With all of this done, I glued the doors into
position. I glued the outer two doors on first and then positioned
the centre door over the top of these. Lastly, I did a tiny bit
of modification so that the base would fit around the doors.
|
 |
|
 |
The last time I made one of these
buildings, I did not use the base as I wanted to scratch build one
that would sit level on a hill. So now we have a complete building.
The final step was to paint the building. For this I used some Floquil
Refer White. |
|
|
After this had dried, I used a small brush to
paint the trimming with a bit of maroon, Floquil Rock Island Red
was the exact colour I used. I then used a brush to paint on some
aluminum for the roof. I prefer the aluminum as it leaves a nicer
finish. Also if you brush paint it then the brush strokes tend
to give it a nice texture prior to weathering.

| Next chapter Jade yet again discovers that
the game of Monopoly is not her friend. Also we get a QR driver's opinion
of the layout thus far. But as always, we shall see how we go. |
